Like the classic debates of “less filling, tastes great” and “is it butter or Parkay?”, an equally emotional exchange is afoot in the world of software testing. One side supports the examination and certification of software testers based on their claim that there exists a set of processes, techniques, and tools that testers should know. In their view, a certification exam would effectively measure a tester’s ability. On the other hand, some feel that the current body of knowledge is neither mature nor comprehensive, and that much of a tester’s ability is untestable “art” rather than testable “science.” Join us for a lively discussion of this topic and share your comments as we explore both positions.
